The Abels Bill Wilkinson

The Abels Bill Wilkinson

The aim of the Abel books is to make available access information for the general public, who may not know of easily accessible walking tracks to mountain summits, right through to those who desire the effort involved in seven-day self-contained walks.

Whether you wish to ascend a few Abels, lots of Abels, or all of them, is entirely personal preference. In the two Volumes on The Abels, the authors are there with you on every walk.

Tasmania is world famous for its magnificent mountains and the two Volume work – Volume 1 (which covers sections 1 to 5) and Volume 2 (which covers sections 6 to 10), is written specifically about Tasmania’s finest mountains, the Abels, which are all over 1100m high.

Information has been sourced from a wide range of experienced bushwalkers so that a sensitive and studied portrayal is presented for each Abel. An attempt has been made to capture the unique qualities of each Abel, its nomenclature, cultural history, the best way to climb them and the feeling and view from each summit.

A vast photographic collection and colour maps assist in locating and displaying our elevated masterpieces.

In addition, specialised essays are written on themes related to this alpine realm. They range from their geology, fungi, lichens, reptiles right through to their exploration and history.
